Serious touring, or Just for fun.
I will begin by saying, I had high expectations for the Honu Sorrento SUP, and after using it five times since the week before Christmas, I am pleased to say, it has not disappointed me. I wanted a Touring board for covering longer distances on flat water such as rivers and lakes, to date I have only done shorter trips (6 kilometres) but the board performed very well.
The board glides smoothly across the water, tracks very well, and is easy to manoeuvre. I was a little concerned if I would find the board stable, it being 3 inches narrower than my previous ride, and with my post Christmas weight at 100 kilograms, but I am very comfortable with the board’s stability (no unexpected dunking yet). There have been more motor boats out on my local river over Christmas, and I am always a bit nervous crossing boat wakes. When approached ‘Head On’ the Sorrento cuts through the wake without effort or loss of stability.
The construction and quality of finish is excellent, on par with boards with much higher price tags. I am not normally too concerned with a board’s appearance, but this is a stylish board, and I admit to not being able to suppress a slight grin every time I look at it. The three handles (front, back and centre) are very convenient and ‘Easy’ on the hand. But one of my favourite features is the board’s light weight, making it so easy to carry, or load on roof racks.
